Kensington Metropark is southeast Michigan’s premier outdoor recreation area.
In 2007 the SPLASH ‘n’ BLAST outdoor water feature made its debut. Located on Martindale Beach are two 250-foot twisted waterslides, and a water spray area with cannons, palm trees and giant coiled serpents, a delightful way for families to cool off on a hot summer day.
Throughout the year, Kensington has interpretive programs and unique facilities with a multi-generational appeal. This 4,481-acre park has picnic areas, beaches, boat rental and launches, and an 18-hole golf course plus a 24-basket disc golf course. The Farm Center and Nature Center have self-guided trails in addition to display areas that house farm and outdoor life exhibits. The 8-mile paved bike-hike trail that surrounds 1,200-acre Kent Lake provides cyclists and walkers with a challenging trek and beautiful panoramic views of the area. The fall brings a spectacular array of colors that are best viewed during a relaxing cruise aboard the Island Queen II, a 49-passenger excursion boat. In the winter months sledding, tobogganing, cross-country skiing, ice fishing, skating and wildlife viewing complete the wide array of fun activities that make Kensington Metropark a destination for year ‘round enjoyment. The park is open every day of the year from 6 a.m.-10 p.m. and all the facilities are accessible.
